What are varicose veins in legs?

Varicose veins in legs are dilated veins in the lower extremities, a consequence of poor blood circulation.

Why do varicose veins occur in the legs?

They are caused by a failure in blood circulation. The veins have valves that when they do not work well favor the stagnation of the blood and this causes them to dilate giving rise to the appearance of varicose veins. Obesity, certain jobs and genetic predisposition are the main triggers.

What symptoms do they produce?

In addition to producing an important aesthetic disorder, they also produce discomfort such as heavy legs, itching, cramps, swelling or even pain. In some more advanced cases they can be complicated with ulcers in the legs or even thrombosis.

When should I have varicose veins surgery?

What’s the best operation?

Depending on the type of varicose veins, the treatments are varied. In some cases they can be solved without the need of an operation. It is done in the consultation by the specialist and does not produce any limitation to the patient. Coarse varicose veins are treated in the operating room with techniques that allow very good results from the aesthetic and functional point of view.
